2016-17 FIU SOC Best Community Outreach Award winner
2020 Chick-fil-A National True Inspiration Award nominee
As senior area staff with InterVarsity South Florida’s Graduate & Faculty Ministries, Mary works to see students and faculty transformed, university campuses renewed, and world changers developed. She connects with students and faculty at three campuses: Florida International University (FIU)-South (MMC), FIU-North (BBC), and Barry University (Main Campus).
Mary is ordained, licensed, and insured by the International Fellowship of Chaplains and was one of the first university chaplains to respond after the FIU bridge collapse of 2018.
Currently, gifts to InterVarsity for Mary’s service in South Florida cover program costs and student/faculty outreach, including:
- team development and scholarships for leadership conferences
- printed resources and communications
- on- and off-campus events
- non-commuting travel
InterVarsity (IV) builds witnessing communities of students and faculty to grow in love for God, love for the campus, love for one’s academic discipline, and love for the world. Together we mobilize to reach out to others. Through creative activity and collaborative engagement, we protect the innocent, seek the hurting, and nurture individuals to thrive in our local and global communities.
Campus Ambassador for Multi-Faith Council and Minister/Facilitator for IV Student & Faculty/Staff Groups
We are part of the FIU family who follows Jesus in loving the lonely, restoring the broken-hearted, and encouraging each other to leave the world a better place.
FIU is #1 in the nation in awarding degrees to Hispanic students. More than 50% of its student body will be the first generation in their families to attain a college degree. Many FIU students hail from culturally diverse, sometimes poor, fractured families – making them vulnerable to sexual exploitation, high debt accumulation, and unfulfilled college dreams.
Working with local experts, university staff and faculty, Mary meets international, first-generation and other college students wherever they are — providing loving affirmation of their worth to God, filtering the baggage of bad mindsets, and raising up some the these once confused, lonely young adults to confident leaders who walk humbly with God, understand how they are wired, and excel as they focus outwardly.

Barry University is a private, Catholic university located in Miami Shores. The student body is as diverse and open as the city and region it calls home. Originally founded as Barry College for Women, Barry has grown into a coeducational university that is one of the leading centers for education in South Florida.
With a motto to Learn, Reflect, Serve, Barry-Main Campus is a unique place with diverse voices in the Christian dialogue. Mary works with faculty and graduate students to provide thoughtful, Biblical alternatives to deep questions of identity, truth, redemption, and discipleship.
If you are ever in the Miami area, please let Mary know. She’d love to greet you and give you a special tour, showing you the exciting things God is doing through InterVarsity in South Florida.
May God bless you as you seek to further His Kingdom through your prayers and financial partnership with Mary in God’s campus ministry.
For Such a Time
Having grown up as an at-risk youth in South Beach, Mary knows first-hand the vulnerability of young girls raised by a single-parent fleeing an abusive partner. Through faith and the love of caring adults, she and her family escaped further harm and abuse.
Now, as a Christ-follower, wife and mother, she uses her influence to encourage people of all ages to seek communion with God, sexual wholeness, and ways to serve others.
Mary Tuttle began promoting family wellness right out of graduate school and served as a founding director of the Women’s Opportunity Fund, now Women’s Economic Empowerment for Opportunity International.
While in college Mary’s sister Melinda was sexually exploited, taken far away from those who loved her, held hostage in a trailer, and ultimately murdered. Today Mary stands for others like Melinda, who live without a voice and without help: protecting the innocent and offering a light out of darkness.
As a professional working in institutional development for over a decade and advocating locally on university campuses for 25+ years, Mary has honed her skills in education management, financial stewardship, and hospitality, and she connects to a diversity of audiences with a message of LIFE as an ordained, licensed, and insured Chaplain through IFOC.org.
